THE STORY / SLEEPING JOY

This series centers on the allure of spaces that remain dormant during the day, bringing into focus their latent narratives and hidden potentials. This body of work investigates the nature of spaces designed for specific purposes—what becomes of these environments when we are not present? My exploration hones in on amusement parks, spaces that, after sundown, unveil a haunting interplay of unfulfilled expectations. The work navigates the aesthetics of these constructed worlds, interrogating their apparent absence of meaning, while simultaneously offering a glimmer of hope for genuine joy.

I am particularly drawn to the "sleeping" rides - vivid, immersive realms designed for both children and adults, their artificial hopes of happiness and pleasure momentarily suspended. One summer day in Sardinia, I encountered these machines of joy at rest, capturing a rare moment of stillness before they reanimated with the onset of night, once again staging their promises of euphoria.

VISUAL ARTIST DITTE BOLDT

DITTE BOLT
is a Copenhagen based visual artist who works primary with photo, installation and video.
Ditte Bolt has, among other things, exhibited her work at the Copenhagen Photo Festival, Galleri Stalke, the censored Spring Exhibition in Copenhagen and created installations for and at the Roskilde Festival. She has an audiovisual collaboration “Filipsen & Bolt” with composer and musician Anders Filipsen where they perform abstract and freely improvised processes live. She has also been a strong driving force within the underground environment in terms of creating exhibitions at alternative locations. Her expression is characterized by a focus on moods from past dramas and incidents.

She describes her expression and work as follows:
"In my work I am especially drawn by twilight, sombre and strong colours, tight compositions and obscurity – what is not there, when I create the picture, has perhaps been there - a moment ago, yesterday or a century ago. I thrive on investigating locations and spaces - inside and outside - heavy with ambiance from the drama of earlier events, yesterday or decades ago. The study of places and spaces - outdoors and indoors - loaded with moods from past dramas and events. I explore scenes of intimacy and intensity and fascinated by elements that are transformed into beautiful shapes and heavy colourings, calm lines and mystic perspectives that leaves time vibrating… It’s always the light that catches my attention. I use the existing light – whether it is the sleepy light of day, candlelight or the full moon. The challenge is capturing the exact mood of the moment from where I stand. Remembrance of something that happened, maybe subconsciously or something dreamt... somewhere in the twilight of the memory, heavy with subconscious notes, reminiscence, hidden pain, potent dreams or loving memories
